Instructor: KATHY ALUIA: I trace my passion for textile arts back to the hours I spent sitting on the floor underneath my great grandmother’s treadle sewing machine. Always happiest with needle, thread and fabric in my hands, I grew up creating my own designs, acquiring and honing my skills. I’ve had the honor and pleasure of spending more than 20 years teaching and facilitating classes in the full range of textile arts: quilting, sewing, embroidery, knitting, crochet, weaving and dyeing. My ongoing desire is to inspire people of all ages to play and create without fear, working from an organic and intuitive place.
During this three session workshop, Kathy Aluia, will be teaching students the foundation of quilting. This is a ruler-free, pattern-free, judgement-free basic quilting class for beginners and sewers of all experience levels hoping to experiment with a more improvisational approach. Explore and play with color theory and relationships, composition, and improvisation while learning hand- and machine-sewing construction techniques, quilting methods, and binding. We will be working with 100% cotton solid fabrics. Students will learn several clever shortcuts and efficiency tips along the way. We will discuss methods for finishing your project based on completed size. Students will purchase a Materials Kit from the instructor. Additional supply list (anticipated cost $25-$50) will be provided during the first class.
