Instructor: Emily Glimp joined the Studiomate Artists’ community at Metalwerx in 2015. Since then, she has been enjoying the Metalwerx community, pursuing her quest for skill acquisition in techniques involving metal fabrication of jewelry and small-scale functional objects. Her favorite metalworking techniques include fusing, soldering, and texturing; lately she has been focused on developing skills in the art of filigree. As a life-long rock-hound, she also has a fascination with gems, pearls, and other materials’ potential as adornment for pieces made using classic silversmithing techniques.
This fun and fast paced workshop will cover two techniques for creating silver earrings that are simple to make and striking to wear. The course will begin with demonstrations on how to create links for two classic chain styles that will be adapted into a variety of earrings designs. Students will learn some metalsmithing basics including forming, texturing, and finishing sterling silver. Students will wrap up the class by discovering how to create ear wires in order to bring (or wear) two new pairs of earrings!
