Transform salvaged food cartons into striking upcycled prints. Join artist and instructor Karen Dubrovsky for a hands-on printmaking workshop.. This one-day intensive explores TetraPak cartons as a sustainable printmaking material. You’ll learn scoring, peeling, and cutting techniques to create visual effects, then use the etching press to print your plates.

TetraPak cartons—those plastic-lined food containers that usually end up in the recycling bin—become the star of this inventive printmaking workshop. You’ll work with salvaged cartons to discover how different cutting and peeling techniques create distinct visual effects, then transfer your designs onto paper using the etching press. Whether you’re new to printmaking or looking to expand your practice with unconventional materials, this class welcomes your ideas and imagery.
What you’ll learn in this TetraPak printmaking workshop:
- How to score and peel TetraPak cartons to reveal layered visual textures
- Cutting techniques that create distinct tonal and linear effects
- Proper plate preparation for the etching press
- Setting up and using the etching press for printmaking
- How to troubleshoot common printing issues (ink consistency, pressure, registration)
- Sustainable and creative approaches to upcycled materials
